Match Reports 2009-10

Sat 24/04/10
- Clitheroe 2 Ossett Albion1 (UniBond League) Att 182
Lydon Hodgkiss replaced Simon Garner in defence who moved to replace Joe Roberts in midfield, Louis Mayers replaced Jerrome Matthews up front.

Clitheroe ended the season with a slender win over struggling Ossett Albion to finish in their best-ever 8th place with 62 points. An ordinary first half ended goalless but then the Blues stepped up a gear for the second half and took a 49th minute lead when keeper Danny Hanford's huge punt forward bounced once and then Louis Mayers headed it on over the outcoming Ossett keeper into an empty net. The visitors equalised in the 72nd minute and were then reduced to 10 men soon after. Clitheroe continued to pile on the pressure searching for the goal to take all 3 points and it came in the 85th minute when a terrific cross from the right wing by Simon Garner was headed home at the far post by Alan Coar.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher (Andrew Naylor), Lydon Hodgkiss, Simon Garner, Zach Clark, Kenny Mayers (Jason Jones), Alan Coar , Louis Mayers, Danny Williams (Alex Brees). Sub not used - Jack Brierley.

Ryan Fisher and Simon Garner replaced Lydon Hodgkiss and Kev Brown in defence with Kenny Mayers coming in to midfield, Alan Coar and Jerrome Matthews replaced Louis Mayers and Nathan Taylor up front.

The Blues returned to winning ways with a very good victory over play-off contenders Colwyn Bay. They made a great start and took a 19th minute lead when Alan Coar fired home with an acrobatic overhead kick from 10 yards. The visitors equalised in the 26th minute but Clitheroe regained the lead in the 31st minute when Alan Coar's fierce angled drive was parried by the keeper and Kenny Mayers latched onto the loose ball to fire home. Colwyn Bay piled on the pressure in the second half and one goal attempt bounced back off the crossbar but Clitheroe withstood the pressure to record a welcome victory.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Simon Garner, Joe Roberts, Zach Clark, Kenny Mayers, Alan Coar (Andrew Naylor), Jerrome Matthews (Louis Mayers), Danny Williams (Alex Brees). Sub not used - Jack Brierley.

Tue 22/04/10
- FC Halifax Town 2 Clitheroe 2 (UniBond League) Att 1932
Danny Williams replaced Konstantin Televinov in midfield, Louis Mayers and Nathan Taylor replaced Andrew Naylor and Jack Brierley up front.

Clitheroe played well at the champions-elect who scored another late goal to preserve their unbeaten home record. The Blues were quickly closing the Halifax players down and had the best chance of the first half when Joe Roberts played in Nathan Taylor but his shot was well saved by the home keeper. Clitheroe keeper Danny Hanford made a superb save just before the interval to keep the half time score goalless. Clitheroe started the second half brightly and forced an early corner which led to Kevin Brown heading in off the crossbar to give the Blues a 48th minute lead. Louis Mayers then struck the post with a shot before Nathan Taylor pulled up sharply as he sprinted across the pitch. He was replaced up front by Alan Coar who doubled the lead in the 69th minute when he raced onto Louis Mayers' ball forward and fired home across the Halifax keeper. The home side increased their tempo and pulled a goal back in the 75th minute to set up a tense final 15 minutes. They scored the equaliser in the 87th minute when a corner was headed clear but only to the edge of the box and the loose ball was fired home through a mass of players.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Lydon Hodgkiss, Kev Brown, Joe Roberts, Zach Clark (Alex Brees), Simon Garner, Louis Mayers, Nathan Taylor (Alan Coar), Danny Williams (Andrew Naylor). Sub not used Konstantin Televinov.

Sat 17/04/10
- Wakefield 2 Clitheroe 0 (UniBond League) Att 95
Lydon Hodgkiss replaced Ryan Fisher in defence, Joe Roberts and Konstantin Televinov replaced Jason Jones and Danny Williams in midfield, Andrew Naylor and Jack Brierley (making his debut) replaced Alan Coar and Nathan Taylor up front.

Clitheroe put in a subdued performance in a game that felt like a pre-season friendly played on a hard pitch that looked good but saw players from both sides struggle to keep the ball down. Nothing of much note happened in the first half apart from the referee asking if anything could be done about the smoke from a nearby garden fire that was drifting across the pitch. The answer was no and the smoke was evident throughout the game. A 0-0 draw was looking the likely result but Wakefield took the lead in the 60th minute and doubled it in the 63rd minute. The Blues did have a brief spell of pressure to create a couple of chances that brought fine saves from the home keeper but it was not enough to stop a marginally better Wakefield side from taking the points.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Lydon Hodgkiss, Kev Brown, Joe Roberts, Zach Clark (Nathan Taylor), Simon Garner, Andrew Naylor, Jack Brierley (Louis Mayers), Konstantin Televinov (Alex Brees). Subs not used - Alan Coar, Mitch Bailey
.

Wed 14/04/10
- Clitheroe 0 Southport 4 (Lancs Challenge Cup Final) Att 1207
Ryan Fisher returned at centre half in place of Simon Garner who moved forward to replace Mitch Bailey in midfield, Danny Williams replaced Alex Brees in midfield and Alan Coar replaced Andrew Naylor up front.

Clitheroe matched their Conference North opponents for the first 25 minutes but then two quick goals edged the final away from them. Keeper Danny Hanford made a fine full length diving save in the early stages and Nathan Taylor volleyed a falling ball on the edge of the penalty box narrowly wide. Southport took the lead in the 25th minute when a headed clearance out of defence was rifled back through a mass of players from 35 yards to give Danny Hanford no chance. They increased their lead in the 27th minute when a superb diagonal ball out of defence released their striker who advanced and slotted the ball home. The Blues regrouped but fell further behind in the 40th minute when an innocuous centre from the visitors right wing was fumbled at the last minute and the loose ball was headed home. Clitheroe tried their best to get back in the game after the break and created a couple of good chances but generally the Southport defence was holding firm. The Blues' defence was also playing better in the second half but an attempted pass back to the keeper in the 83rd minute was intercepted and fired past Danny Hanford to give a comprehensive but flattering 0-4 scoreline to Southport.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones (Mitch Bailey), Zach Clark (Alex Brees), Simon Garner, Alan Coar (Andrew Naylor), Nathan Taylor, Danny Williams. Subs not used - Joe Roberts, Lydon Hodgkiss

Sat 10/04/10
- Woodley Sports 3 Clitheroe 1 (UniBond League) Att 116
Kev Brown replaced Ryan Fisher in defence, Zach Clark replaced Danny Williams in midfield, Nathan Taylor replaced Alan Coar up front.

Clitheroe had as much of the play and created more chances than Woodley but the hosts were more clinical in front of goal to win the match. An intercepted pass on the edge of the Blues penalty area would lead to Woodley going ahead in the 10th minute and they doubled the lead in the 18th minute when an incisive through ball was slotted past Danny Hanford. Clitheroe made a good start to the second half and created a string of chances before a decent Woodley move in the 62nd minute saw them increase their lead with a third goal. The Blues notched a consolation goal in the 87th minute when Konstantin Televinov was put clear down the right and his ball across the area was finished by Mitch Bailey.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Kev Brown (Gavinlee Ellision), Simon Garner, Jason Jones (Louis Mayers), Zach Clark, Mitch Bailey, Andrew Naylor, Nathan Taylor, Alex Brees (Konstantin Televinov). Subs not used - Joe Roberts. Ryan Fisher

Wed 07/04/10
- Chorley 2 Clitheroe 2 (UniBond League) Att 152
Liam McManus and Simon Garner replaced Gavinlee Ellison and Mitch Bailey in defence, Mitch Bailey, Jason Jones and Alex Brees replaced Joe Roberts, Kenny Mayers and Zach Clark in midfield, Alan Coar replaced Nathan Taylor up front.

The Blues came away from Chorley with a point but it could so easily have been all three as they conceded a goal with the very last touch of the game - from a goalkeeper. Clitheroe were soon on top and took a 20th minute lead when good work down the left by Danny Williams saw him drill a low ball into the area and Alan Coar finished in front of goal. The home side rarely threatened in the first half and the Blues took a slender but comfortable lead into the interval. Chorley were more determined in the second half but it was Clitheroe who scored next in the 55th minute when Alex Brees was pulled back as he burst into the penalty area and Jason Jones made no mistake with the spot kick. The home team continued to pile on the pressure and pulled a goal back in the 64th minute. Clitheroe were having to defend deep into 4 minutes of added on time and the Chorley goalkeeper made his way upfield as they won a corner and scored his team's equaliser just before the referee blew the full time whistle.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Simon Garner, Jason Jones, Alex Brees, Mitch Bailey, Louis Mayers (Andrew Naylor), Alan Coar (Nathan Taylor), Danny Williams (Joe Roberts). Subs not used - Konstantin Televinov, Kenny Mayers

Mon 05/04/10
- Clitheroe 1 Lancaster City 3 (UniBond League) Att 351
Danny Hanford replaced Mark Thornley in goal, Gavinlee Ellison replaced Lydon Hodgkiss in defence, Zach Clark and Kenny Mayers replaced Konstantin Televinov and Andrew Naylor in midfield.

Clitheroe history was made as father and son started a match for the first time together when Kenny and Louis Mayers took to the field against the league leaders. Lancaster took the lead in the 12th minute when a shot was deflected past stranded keeper Danny Hanford but the Blues equalised in the 35th minute when Nathan Taylor's freekick was met in front of goal by Kenny Mayers who directed the ball into the net. Clitheroe were matching the league leaders and could have taken a half time lead when a fierce Nathan Taylor drive was parried but Joe Roberts' follow-up shot was easily defended. Lancaster stepped up a gear after the break and took the lead again in the 47th minute before adding a third in the 60th minute. The Blues tried to get back into the game but the well organised visitors kept on top until the final whistle.

Team: Danny Hanford, Mitch Bailey (Andrew Naylor), Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Gavinlee Ellison, Joe Roberts, Zach Clark, Kenny Mayers, Louis Mayers (Alan Coar), Nathan Taylor (Alex Brees), Danny Williams. Sub not used - Konstantin Televinov.

Fri 02/04/10
- Clitheroe 2 Garforth Town 1 (UniBond League) Att 265
Mark Thornley replaced Danny Hanford in goal, Mitch Bailey and Lydon Hodgkiss replaced Gavinlee Ellison and Kev Brown in defence, Konstantin Televinov and Andrew Naylor replaced Zach Clark and Simon Garner in midfield.

Multiple suspensions and injury saw a much changed line up start this match and the unfamiliar side fell behind in the 13th minute when stand-in keeper Mark Thornley saved superbly from a point blank shot but could do nothing to stop the rebound being poked home from close range. Garforth continued to have the upper hand in the first half and looked good value for their slender half time lead. A double substitution straight after the interval soon paid off with the equaliser coming in the 50th minute, Danny Williams floated in a cross which was headed on by Louis Mayers and Gavinlee Ellison then nodded the ball home. Clitheroe took the lead in the 68th minute when a defence splitting pass saw Louis Mayers latch onto it but the ball spilled as he rounded the keeper and Alan Coar was on hand to stroke the loose ball into the empty net. The visitors piled on the pressure in the closing stages and struck the bar before the Blues flung bodies in the way of goalbound efforts to secure victory with an improved second half showing.

Team: Mark Thornley, Mitch Bailey, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts, Konstantin Televinov (Alex Brees), Andrew Naylor (Gavinlee Ellison), Louis Mayers, Nathan Taylor (Alan Coar), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Zach Clark, Kenny Mayers

Sat 27/03/10
- Skelmersdale United 3 Clitheroe 1 (UniBond League) Att 261
Gavinlee Ellison replaced Liam McManus in defence in the only change from the previous match..

The Blues fell to their sixth defeat out of seven away league games in a match of gifted goals and some inconsistent yellow cards. Skelmersdale took an early 4th minute lead when a defensive slip allowed their striker to steal away with the ball and slot home. Clitheroe did create a few chances in the first half but couldn't finish them off while keeper Danny Hanford made a couple of smart saves to deny Skem at teh other end. The hosts doubled their lead in the 44th minute when keeper Danny Hanford was adjudged to have caught the ball behind the line from a far post header. His feet were behind the line but he was convinced that the ball in his outstretched arms was not fully over. Clitheroe played with the wind behind them in the second half and had more of the attacking play but could not breach a solid Skem defence. They fell further behind in the 66th minute when a high ball into the box was not dealt with and the short striker headed home. The Blues scored a consolation in the 85th minute when Zach Clark was brought down as he burst clear into the box and Danny Williams fired home the resulting penalty.

Team: Danny Hanford, Gavinlee Ellison (Mitch Bailey), Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown (Konstantin Televinov), Joe Roberts, Zach Clark, Simon Garner, Louis Mayers (Andrew Naylor), Nathan Taylor, Danny Williams. Subs not used - Alex Brees, Lydon Hodgkiss.

Tue 23/03/10
- Clitheroe 7 AFC Fylde 1 (UniBond League) Att 236
Clitheroe reverted to a more usual 4-4-2 with Louis Mayers and Nathan Taylor returning up front in place of Jason Jones in midfield and Andrew Naylor.

The Blues put in a tremendous team display to earn their biggest victory in the UniBond League. They were given a great start when Kevin Brown headed home from a corner after 7 minutes and doubled the lead after 35 minutes when Nathan Taylor finished from close range. Clitheroe continued their dominance after the interval and scored a third goal after 55 minutes when Kev Brown powered home another header at the far post. Fylde pulled a goal back after 57 minutes but the 3 goal advantage was restored in the 59th minute when Simon Garner made space in the penalty box and curled a low shot into the far corner. The fifth goal was scored in the 60th minute when Joe Roberts' volley was only parried by the keeper and Danny Williams pounced to prod the ball home in a crowded goal area. Central defender Kev Brown notched his hat-trick goal in the 75th minute when he forced the ball into the net from close range. The rout was completed in the 90th minute when sub Alan Coar headed home another corner kick.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus , Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown (Gavinlee Ellison), Joe Roberts, Zach Clark, Simon Garner, Louis Mayers (Andrew Naylor), Nathan Taylor (Alan Coar), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Mitch Bailey, Konstantin Televinov.

Sat 20/03/10
- Rossendale United 2 Clitheroe 0 (UniBond League) Att 111
Andrew Naylor started as a lone striker in place of Louis Mayers and Nathan Taylor with Joe Roberts coming in to a five man midfield.

Clitheroe had another of those games where they had the majority of possession and pressure but could not capitalise on it. They started brightly but fell behind in the 12th minute when Rossendale's first attack brought them a penalty for handball which was tucked away. The Blues continued to spend much of the first half on the attack but the final pass or shot was not quite right and so the hosts kept an unlikely lead at the interval. The second half again saw Clitheroe dictate the game but were again unable to convert pressure and possession into goals. Rossendale scored their second goal in the 68th minute and towards the final stages defender Kev Brown was sent off to round off a disappointing visit to Rossendale who moved off the bottom of the table with this victory.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus (Alan Coar), Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones (Mitch Bailey), Zach Clark (Konstantin Televinov), Simon Garner, Andrew Naylor, Joe Roberts, Danny Williams. Subs not used - Nathan Taylor, Gavinlee Ellison.

Tue 16/03/10
- Clitheroe 1 FC Halifax Town 2 (UniBond League) Att 654
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting eleven from the previous match.

Clitheroe were denied a deserved share of the points by a clinical finish in added-on time from former player James Dean. The Blues shaded the early stages of the game though the visitors looked lively on the counter-attack. Centre backs Ryan Fisher and Kev Brown had good games in restricting the prolific Dean to a single headed effort on target in the first half and continued their dominance after the interval. Striker Louis Mayers was upended in the penalty box and Danny Williams slotted home the resulting penalty to give Clitheroe a 55th minute lead. Halifax were soon on the attack though and in the 62nd minute a defensive mix-up ended with keeper Danny Hanford pulling down a visiting player to concede a penalty and be sent off. Liam McManus donned the keeper's shirt but could not stop the equaliser from the penalty spot. Halifax were then reduced to 10 men as well and the Blues' eagerness to try to take all 3 points from the game led to a hastily taken freekick deep in their own half which was intercepted and led to pressure on the Blues' goal. In the last moments of 5 added-on minutes Halifax snatched the points themselves when Dean turned his marker to make space and drive a hard low shot across the Clitheroe stand-in keeper.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Simon Garner (Gavinlee Ellison), Louis Mayers (Andrew Naylor), Nathan Taylor (Joe Roberts), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Konstantin Televinov, Lydon Hodgkiss.

Sat 13/03/10
- Prescot Cables 2 Clitheroe 0 (UniBond League) Att 216
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting eleven from the previous match.

Both sides struggled to get the ball down and under control on a flat-looking but hard surface that led to few goal scoring chances at either end. The match was littered with yellow cards and two controversial penalty decisions that decided a game that looked sure to finish goalless. The first came after 64 minutes when keeper Danny Hanford was judged to have carried the ball out of his area before releasing it. Play was brought back for a freekick on the edge of the box and the ball struck a player's hand in the Clitheroe wall. It was an involuntary action to protect the face and in no way stopped the ball from clearing the wall. A penalty was awarded and scored. The second came after 89 minutes when Ryan Fisher cleanly won the ball from the Prescot striker who ended on the floor in frustration at missing an excellent goalscoring chance - and the Prescot bench couldn't believe he'd missed it either. There were no appeals for a penalty from any player or Prescot management but the liner had seen an infringement and it resulted in a penalty that was also scored. Jason Jones had Clitheroe's best effort when a neat Konstantin Televinov backheel gave him a shooting opportunity on the angle of the 6 yard box but his angled drive flashed over the bar.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown (Lydon Hodgkiss), Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Simon Garner, Louis Mayers (Andrew Naylor), Nathan Taylor, Danny Williams (Konstantin Televinov). Subs not used - Joe Roberts, Mitchell Bailey.

Tue 09/03/10
- AFC Fylde 0 Clitheroe 3 (UniBond League) Att 221
Kev Brown returned to the defence with Simon Garner moving to replace Gavinlee Ellison in midfield. Andrew Naylor made a return from the subs bench after his injury.

Clitheroe put in a superb performance to comprehensively rout an improving AFC Fylde team. Keeper Danny Hanford made an important early save before the Blues took the lead after 6 minutes when Louis Mayers headed home from a corner. The lead was doubled in the 20th munute when Nathan Taylor and Zach Clark combined down the right and a wicked cross was fired home by Louis Mayers at the back post. The second half again saw Clitheroe dominate the play and a third goal was added when Nathan Taylor's harrying won him the ball and an inch perfect cross into the box was met by Jason Jones to head home from 12 yards. This really was an excellent team display that fully deserved the 3 points.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus (Mitchell Bailey), Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Simon Garner, Louis Mayers (Konstantin Televinov), Nathan Taylor (Andrew Naylor), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts.

Sat 06/03/10
- Clitheroe 2 Salford City 0 (UniBond League) Att 287
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting eleven from the previous match.

Clitheroe ran out comfortable winners with a disciplined performance all over the pitch. Salford started brightly and looked as if they would provide sterner opposition but the Blues easily dealt with any threat and won the game at a canter. Clitheroe had to wait until the 36th minute to break the deadlock when Nathan Taylor played the ball across the area for Louis Mayers to stoop and head home his first goal for the club at the back post. The lead was doubled in the 40th minute when Danny Williams crossed from a similar position and this time Louis Mayers played the ball back at the far post for Jason Jones to force over the line. The second half saw Clitheroe create a few more chances that should have been converted but ultimately this was a comfortable victory at home.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Simon Garner, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison (Mitchell Bailey), Louis Mayers (Joe Roberts), Nathan Taylor (Alan Coar), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Kev Brown, Konstantin Televinov.

Tue 02/03/10
- Clitheroe 2 Warrington Town 1 (UniBond League) Att 167
Simon Garner moved to replace Kev Brown at centre-back with Conor Kavanagh coming in in defence and new signing Louis Mayers replaced Alan Coar up front.

Clitheroe took the points from an entertaining game with a stunning late strike. The Blues dominated the first half and created many chances that forced several good saves from the visiting keeper but surprisingly the half finished goalless. Clitheroe took the lead in the 52nd minute when Jason Jones slotted home from 6 yards following a goalmouth scramble. Warrington then gradually took a hold of the game and a spell on top led to their equaliser after 77 minutes. Both sides then applied pressure in search of the winner and it came Clitheroe's way in the 88th minute when Alan Coar trapped the ball, spun and unleashed a terrific shot from the edge of the penalty box that flashed into the net leaving the otherwise excellent keeper well beaten.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Simon Garner, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison (Mitchell Bailey), Louis Mayers (Alan Coar), Nathan Taylor (Konstantin Televinov), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts.

Sat 27/02/10
- Mossley 4 Clitheroe 2 (UniBond League) Att 126
Kev Brown returned at centre-back with Simon Garner moving to replace Conor Kavanagh in defence and Gavinlee Ellison replaced Joe Roberts in midfield.

Clitheroe will be hugely disappointed to have surrendered a 2 goal lead in this end to end tussle. The Blues started off on top and forced their former keeper Peter Collinge to make some early saves from shots around the edge of the box. Both sides had chances but the interval arrived with the scores goalless. Clitheroe raced into an early second half lead when Nathan Taylor fired home from 10 yards after 48 minutes and the score was doubled in the 50th minute when Nathan Taylor lashed home an even better shot from the edge of the box. The home side looked down and out but pulled a goal back in the 65th minute from a loose ball in the 6 yard area and then equalised after 70 minutes when a great cross from the left was forced home. Clitheroe continued to create plenty of chances and looked the likelier to score and take the points but in the 90th minute it was Mossley who took the lead and notched a 4th goal in the 3rd minute of added-on time to leave the Blues shellshocked.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Simon Garner, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown (Mitchell Bailey), Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison, Alan Coar (Kenny Mayers), Nathan Taylor (Konstantin Televinov), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts.

Sat 20/02/10
- Clitheroe 2 Rossendale United 1 (UniBond League) Att 300
Simon Garner moved back to replace Kev Brown in defence with Danny Williams returning in midfield alongside Zach Clark and Jason Jones who replaced Konstantin Televinov and Lydon Hodgkiss.

Clitheroe took the points against their local rivals who almost did enough to come back and earn a draw. The Blues started off strongly and took a 4th minute lead when Alan Coar headed home from a corner. The lead was doubled in the 31st minute when Zach Clark ran on to a through ball and fired home from just inside the penalty area. Clitheroe were comfortably ahead going into the interval but the visitors stepped up a gear in the second half. Rossendale pulled a goal back after 55 minutes and ex-Blue Sam Heap had a great chance to level the scores as time ran out but keeper Danny Hanford made another superb save.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Simon Garner, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Joe Roberts (Mitchell Bailey), Alan Coar, Nathan Taylor (Jerrome Matthews), Danny Williams (Konstantin Televinov). Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Kenny Mayers.

Mon 15/02/10
- Harrogate Railway Athletic 2 Clitheroe 3 (UniBond League) Att 96
Liam McManus and Conor Kavanagh replaced Jonathan Forbes and Simon Garner in defence, Konstantin Televinov made his full debut alongside Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts and Simon Garner who replaced Zach Clark, Jason Jones, Gavinlee Ellison and Danny Williams in midfield.

Clitheroe battled hard to secure the points against their lowly hosts. It was Harrogate who opened the scoring in the 31st minute but the Blues equalised in the 34th minute when new signing Konstantin Televinov drilled home from 15 yards. Harrogate took a halftime lead with a second goal in the 44th minute. Clitheroe's Estonian player was involved in the Blues second equaliser after 70 minutes when his freekick was flicked on and bundled home from close range by Liam McManus. Both sides went looking for the winner and it came in the 89th minute when Konstantin Televinov made space on the right wing to fire in a low cross and Nathan Taylor steered it home to give Clitheroe all three points.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Lydon Hodgkiss (Jason Jones), Konstantin Televinov, Joe Roberts, Alan Coar (Jerrome Matthews), Nathan Taylor, Simon Garner (Mitchell Bailey).

Sat 13/02/10
- Leigh Genesis 2 Clitheroe 0 (UniBond League) Att 166
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting lineup for this game with new signing Konstantin Televinov making his debut from the subs bench.

The Blues were made to rue defensive errors and missed chances in a below par peformance. After shading the early part of the game Clitheroe fell behind in the 20th minute when a loose ball was knocked into an empty net from 6 yards. Nathan Taylor had a good chance to equalise before Leigh doubled their lead in the 45th minute with a good run and finish following an interception midway inside the Clitheroe half. The home side were comfortably ahead but the Blues created five excellent chances in the last 20 minutes and a share of the spoils would have been a fair result. Leigh have an impressive home record but took the points from this match with goals from two unfortunate errors.

Team: Danny Hanford, Jonathan Forbes (Liam McManus), Simon Garner, Ryan Fisher (Konstantin Televinov), Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison, Alan Coar, Nathan Taylor, Danny Williams (Conor Kavanagh). Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Joe Roberts

Wed 10/02/10
- Clitheroe 3 Leigh Genesis 1 (Lancashire Cup) Att 149 (at County HQ, Leyland)
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting lineup for this game.

The Blues reached the final of the Lancashire FA Co-operative Challenge Trophy with this victory over Leigh Genesis at the Lancs FA headquarters in Leyland. Clitheroe took the lead on 22 minutes when Danny Williams knocked home from close range in a crowded goal mouth. Leigh equalised in the 33rd minute but fell behind again in the 43rd minute when Nathan Taylor poked on Jason Jones's pass forward and Alan Coar ran on strongly to slot home from just inside the penalty box. The second half saw both teams have spells on top but it was Clitheroe who scored the decisive goal when Liam McManus bundled home a corner to send Clitheroe to a date at the Reebok, Bolton against the winners of the Lancaster City-Southport semi-final.

Team: Danny Hanford, Jonathan Forbes (Liam McManus), Simon Garner, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark (Joe Roberts), Gavinlee Ellison, Alan Coar, Nathan Taylor (Conor Kavanagh), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Lydon Hodgkiss, Kenny Mayers

- Clitheroe 2 Radcliffe Borough 1 (UniBond League) Att 260
Simon Garner moved back to replace Lydon Hodgkiss in defence with Jason Jones starting in midfield.

The Blues returned to winning ways against a battling Radcliffe Borough side who will feel they deserved a share of the points in an even game. Clitheroe made a great start and took an 8th minute lead when Danny Williams crossed from the left and Alan Coar stretched a leg out in front of goal to divert the ball home. The visitors equalised in the 61st minute with a neat finish and from then on it really was anyone's game. Some persistence from Ryan Fisher won the ball back on the right of the Radcliffe goal and he played it back to Danny Williams who stroked the ball square for Jason Jones to drill home from 12 yards and give Clitheroe a 78th minute lead and ultimately all 3 points.

Team: Danny Hanford, Jonathan Forbes (Liam McManus), Simon Garner, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison (Joe Roberts), Alan Coar (Kenny Mayers), Nathan Taylor , Danny Williams. Subs not used - Mitchell Bailey, Conor Kavanagh

Tue 02/02/10
- Lancaster City 2 Clitheroe 1 (UniBond League) Att 203
Jonathan Forbes replaced Conor Kavanagh in defence, new signing Simon Garner replaced Joe Roberts in midfield and Alan Coar replaced Jerrome Matthews up front. New signing Konstantin Televinov started on the subs bench.

The Blues were unfortunate not to come away from the league leaders with at least a point despite playing for much of the game with 10 men. Simon Garner struck a long range freekick into the defensive wall before Jonathan Forbes was sent off for a fully committed tackle. Lancaster then had a few chances and keeper Danny Hanford made a superb diving save from a low volley to keep them out. Clitheroe started the second half brightly and took the lead in the 70th minute when Nathan Taylor flashed an angled drive across the keeper into the far corner. Lancaster then threw men forward and they equalised in the 77th minute and took the lead in the 81st minute. The Blues had a couple of late chances to gain a share of the spoils but were not outclassed at all by the top of the table team.

Team: Danny Hanford, Jonathan Forbes, Lydon Hodgkiss (Conor Kavanagh), Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Simon Garner, Zach Clark (Mitchell Bailey), Gavinlee Ellison, Alan Coar (Jason Jones), Nathan Taylor , Danny Williams. Sub not used - Joe Roberts, Konstantin Televinov.

Sat 23/01/10
- Clitheroe 1 Prescot Cables 2 (UniBond League) Att 300
Jerrome Matthews replaced injured Andrew Naylor up front in the only change from the last match.

Clitheroe's 9 match unbeaten run came to a halt against a decent Prescot side who took the points in a game that looked destined to end as a goalless draw until a defensive mix up in the 65th minute. The Blues shaded the opening 45 minutes and had a couple of very close chances towards the end of the first half that were cleared to leave the half time score goalless. Clitheroe were pressing after the break when an innocuous ball out of the Prescot defence was not dealt with and the Prescot striker was left with an easy chance from 20 yards to stroke the ball home into an empty net to give the visitors a 65th minute lead. Zach Clark then had a strong run into the Prescot penalty area and was knocked to the ground for a clear penalty but the officials deemed it a fair challenge. Nathan Taylor then had a goal ruled out for offside and in the 85th minute the visitors scored an acrobatic second goal. Some late pressure saw Danny Williams presented with a chance inside the penalty area and he lashed the ball home for a 90th minute consolation goal for the Blues.

- Marine 0 Clitheroe 4 (Lancashire Cup) Att 95
Conor Kavanagh replaced Jonathan Forbes in defence and Joe Roberts replaced Jason Jones in midfield as the 2 changes from the previous match on December 12th. New signing Mitchell Bailey made his debut from the subs bench.

Clitheroe returned from the long break with a dominant display at Premier Division Marine and deserved their place in the last four of the Lancs Cup. Blues' keeper Danny Hanford made a superb double save in the opening minutes but was then to have a quiet night as Marine's finishing for the entire match was woeful. Clitheroe looked threatening with each attack and took the lead in the 18th minute when Zach Clark drove an angled shot low across the keeper into the far corner. The second goal came in the 22nd minute when Gavinlee Ellison met a free kick and glanced the ball past the stranded home keeper with his head. The third goal came after 28 minutes when Nathan Taylor picked up the ball just inside the area before advancing past a static defence and firmly planting the ball home. Marine improved slightly after the break but still without really troubling Clitheroe's defence and the match was wrapped up in the 69th minute when Danny Williams's cross was parried by the keeper into the path of Jerrome Matthews who lashed the ball home from 10 yards. This was a great display after the long break and Clitheroe will now meet Leigh Genesis at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland for a place in the final at Bolton's Reebok stadium.

Team: Danny Hanford, Conor Kavanagh, Lydon Hodgkiss, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Joe Roberts (Mitchell Bailey), Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison, Andrew Naylor (Jerrome Matthews), Nathan Taylor (Alex Brees), Danny Williams. Sub not used - Kenny Mayers

- Clitheroe 4 Curzon Ashton 4 (UniBond League) Att 244
Jonathan Forbes replaced Liam McManus in defence in the only change from the previous match.

Clitheroe more than matched the league leaders in a great game of end to end football. The Blues took an 11th minute lead when Kevin Brown drilled home a low shot from 10 yards and then created two excellent chances to increase the lead but were thwarted by superb saves from the Curzon keeper. The visitors equalised from the penalty spot in the 31st minute and took the lead with another penalty in 42nd minute. A third goal after 44 minutes gave Curzon a surprising 1-3 half time advantage. Clitheroe kept up the pressure in the second half and pulled a goal back after 47 minutes when a fine Jason Jones run and cross was firmly headed home by Kevin Brown from 10 yards. The equaliser came after 58 minutes when a corner was headed home by Ryan Fisher at the back post and the Blues regained the lead in the 67th minute when Nathan Taylor broke into the area and his blocked shot was fortunate to loop over the Curzon keeper. Gavinlee Ellison smacked a header against the crossbar before Nathan Taylor was felled in the penalty area to give Clitheroe the chance of an astonishing 5-3 lead. His penalty kick wrong footed the keeper but unfortunately also went the wrong side of the post. It was Curzon who scored next to once again level the scores in the 76th minute and both sides had late chances to steal all three points but in the end had to settle for a point apiece in a pulsating game.

Team: Danny Hanford, Jonathan Forbes, Lydon Hodgkiss, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison, Andrew Naylor (Jerrome Matthews), Nathan Taylor, Danny Williams. Subs not used - Conor Kavanagh, Alex Brees, Joe Roberts

- Trafford 0 Clitheroe 2 (UniBond League) Att 122
The Blues named an unchanged starting eleven from the previous match.

Clitheroe's persistance brought reward with 2 late goals to win an end to end tussle. Zach Clark had a good chance well saved in the first half while Nathan Taylor brought a even better save from the Trafford keeper who pushed his goalward effort onto the post and out for a corner. The second half saw Nathan Taylor narrowly miss another couple of chances before the Blues took the lead in the 83rd minute. A fine diagonal run from Zach Clark led to him feeding Nathan Taylor on the left of the penalty area and he sneaked the ball past the Trafford keeper as he closed him down. The second goal came after 90 minutes when the ball was played to Jerrome Matthews towards the left touchline and he jinked into the penalty area before making room to fire in a shot that went over the keeper and in off the crossbar.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Lydon Hodgkiss, Ryan Fisher, Kev Brown, Jason Jones (Joe Roberts), Zach Clark, Gavinlee Ellison, Andrew Naylor (Jonathan Forbes), Nathan Taylor (Jerrome Matthews), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Conor Kavanagh, Alex Brees.

The second goal came after 60 minutes when Andrew Naylor played Nathan Taylor through and he finished well from an angle. Liam McManus received a straight red card to reduce the Blues to 10 men but they still took the game to the visitors. Clitheroe had to come from behind with an improved second half performance to take the 3 points. Wakefield took a 39th minute lead and a fine save from a fierce Danny Williams shot kept the interval advantage with the visitors. The Blues pegged Wakefield back in their own half for long spells after the break and equalised in the 69th minute when Jason Jones lashed a cross home from 15 yards. The winning goal came after 85 minutes when sub Kenny Mayers sprung the offside trap and slotted home across the advancing keeper.

They took the lead in the 21st minute when Nathan Taylor latched onto a through ball and rounded the keeper before crossing towards goal where Danny Williams pounced to score from close range. Both sides then had chances to score but it was Ossett who equalised in the 44th minute with a decent shot from the edge of the box. The Blues regained the lead in the 52nd minute when Nathan Taylor's saved shot led to a melee in the 6 yard box and when the ball was played back to Andrew Naylor he fired home through a ruck of players from 8 yards. The third goal came after 59 minutes when Zach Clarke intercepted some sloppy play between the Ossett keeper and defender and played in Andrew Naylor who shot home past the keeper. Goal number four came after 65 minutes when Andrew Naylor drilled the ball home sweetly to bag his hat-trick. They doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Zach Clark dribbled his way into the area and slotted home. The visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 28th minute and levelled the halftime scores with a 38th minute goal. - Salford City 1 Clitheroe 1 (UniBond League) Att 135
Clitheroe named an unchanged starting eleven from the previous match.

The Blues dominated the first half and created numerous chances to have taken a half time lead, with Nathan Taylor driving a shot across the keeper but going narrowly wide, then jinking into the box and having a shot saved and then acrobatically putting an overhead kick just over the bar. He was felled by the keeper right on half time as he chased a through ball but the ref judged that there was no foul. Salford stepped up a gear after the break and the game was more even but it was Clitheroe who took the lead in the 52nd minute when Zach Clark hit a half volley from 15 yards into the net. The lead only lasted 5 minutes when keeper Danny Hanford uncharacteristicly fumbled a high freekick and the loose ball was swept home for 57th minute Salford equaliser. The Blues didn't create as many clear cut chances in the second half and hesitancy in the box meant there was no more goals scored.

Team: Danny Hanford, Liam McManus, Conor Kavanagh, Ryan Fisher (Jonathan Forbes), Kev Brown, Jason Jones, Zach Clark, Joe Roberts, Andrew Naylor, Nathan Taylor (Alan Coar), Danny Williams. Subs not used - Alex Brees, Lydon Hodgkiss, Gavinlee Ellsion

Clitheroe continued to dominate after the interval but also continued to fail to finish many good goal scoring chances that were created. The Blues made a dream start when Liam McManus found Danny Williams wide on the left and his low cross was fired home in front of goal by Nathan Taylor in the 3rd minute. Numerous other chances were created in the first half but some fine saves by the Leigh keeper kept the score down. Leigh played better after half time but Clitheroe were still on top and continuing to create chances with Liam McManus striking the bar from 15 yards. Nathan Taylor went down in the penalty box but the officials deemed it a fair challenge and soon after Leigh were awarded a penalty themselves, their tricky winger faltering over Ryan Fisher's outstretched leg as he cut into the box. Danny Hanford was given no chance with the 84th minute spot kick. Leigh were awarded another penalty for handball in the 87th minute which was also converted to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Both sides had chances to score the winner and it was Chorley who nicked the points with that last minute effort.
